Event format

Opening Remarks

Candidates will have 4 minutes for opening remarks.  The order of speaking for the opening remarks will be by random draw to be done between 6:30 and 7:00, just prior to the event.  Closing remarks will be done in reverse order of the opening remarks.

Questions from the audience

The audience will be invited to ask questions and we would like to give as many people as possible the opportunity to ask questions.  Each individual will be limited to a single question unless we have more time.  Questions are not intended to be speeches and if someone goes off on a speech, the moderator will give them a warning, if they continue with their speech, the moderator will ask them to step aside. Questions need to be relevant to the jurisdiction of the federal government. (ie. Questions about the Seaton development will not be accepted, while questions on the Airport will be fielded.)

If a question is directed at a particular candidate, then that candidate will have 2 minutes to respond and the other candidates (order will be randomly determined by the moderator) will be given 1 minute to address the question as well (if they wish), with the Original candidate given 1 minute to wrap up.

If a question is directed to the entire panel, each candidate will be given 1 minute 30 seconds to respond (order will be randomly selected by the moderator).

The plan is to have a timer in the front row that will hold up a card when a candidate has 30 seconds remaining and then another card once the time has expired.  Once time has expired, the moderator will thank the candidate for their response and move onto the next candidate/question.
