Discover ‘Your City’ at the Pickering Town Centre

Pickering, ON, September 26, 2013 – As part of its commitment to both community engagement and accessible municipal government, the City of Pickering will be holding its first ever ‘Your City’ event to give residents a better understanding of the municipality’s broad and diverse array of programs, services, events and operations.

The City understands that visiting City Hall may be daunting for some residents.  As such, it partnered with the Pickering Town Centre to set up a one-day, interactive exhibition to bring City Hall to residents in a fun, accessible, and informal setting.

Who:       City of Pickering and Residents
What:      Your City Event
Where:   Pickering Town Centre – Centre Court (lower level)
When:    Thursday, October 10, 2013 – 10:00 am to 9:00 pm

Residents can speak with City staff to learn more about sustainability, downtown intensification, taxation, Seaton, fire prevention, recreational programs, online services, and more.  The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation will also be on hand to demystify the home assessment process.  There will also be live stage performances featuring a seniors group, breakdancers, and various Pickering Starz.  The highlight of the exhibition space will be a seven-foot tall scale model of the City Hall Clock Tower that will be constructed by City Development staff solely out of food items.  All of the canned and dry goods are being donated by Allan’s Your Independent Grocer, which will later be brought to St. Paul’s on-the-hill Community Foodbank.

“Municipal government touches the lives of residents on an everyday basis.  We are responsible for helping to weave the fabric of the community,” said Tony Prevedel, Chief Administrative Officer.  ‘I thank Pickering Town Centre for partnering in this important community outreach initiative, which will give residents the opportunity to learn more about their municipal government.”
